Welcome to the RP Games Wiki. This site (and the associated IRC channels) is dedicated to allowing groups to stay together despite what life throws at us. As we get older, two things seem to be pretty common amongst gamers: first, we get more responsibilities, which makes it harder to game, and second, we aren't gaming as much and we miss it!
Few things are as good as sitting down with with a group of mates and having a grand old RP session. However, people move away, get jobs, get married, find other interests and, generally, drift apart. What we want to know is:
Why should that stop the gaming?
So, this site was born. Through it, we seek to preserve the experience of gaming, even if the medium has changed. We host a number of games using a wide variety of systems (and expect more to be added as information is transcribed from notes and other sites). If you want to host a game, here's how to go about it:
- Cardinal Rule: I have to know who you are.
- Sorry, but that's just how it works. Right now, this is a free wiki, which means it has limited space. Since I created it for myself and my friends, that means I'm not offering hosting outside of that group. If I upgrade the wiki to something more than "free", then I'll consider lifting this ban, but for right now, just within the group. EDIT (25 Aug 2009, 17:10): I am now paying for the site. My definition of "group" has expanded to suit. However, that's just for hosting; anyone can play as long as they pass muster with the person running the game. Which brings us to the second rule…
- GM's call the shots in their game.
- As long as they're not breaking the rules of the wiki and not getting me in trouble with Wikidot, they're king, god, judge, emperor, president, general, director, master or whatever other name they feel like using. I reserve the right to overrule people on matters pertaining to the wiki (such as limiting file hosting and such if people start going crazy), but within a game, they're in charge. If you don't like how a GM makes a call for a game they're running, most I'll do is listen and let you cry on my shoulder (and even then, only if I like you).
- We're All Adults Here (Or At Least We Should Be)
- I'll be honest: this is a wiki created by and for adults. What does adult mean? Adult means adult. While in the typical American society, labeling something "adult" immediately brings to mind sex and brutality, that's not what you should be thinking about here. Adult means we're moving beyond black and white morality typified in media aimed at children, beyond good and evil and exploring the shades of gray. I won't lie to you: there might be violence, there might be romance, there might be comedy; we cater to all tastes (except the ones that squick me out… those need not apply). Just don't be surprised when someone recreates Excel Saga in one section, and someone else recreates Hellraiser right next door.
- Copyright And What It Means
- There's a copyright notice on every page. You're encouraged to follow the link and think about what it means. I'll sum it up for you here: You can copy and distribute what appears on this wiki as long as the work is attributed to the author (which isn't always me), it is used for noncommercial purposes, and you do not alter or build on the work.
- How To Pitch A Game
- For any game hosted on here, you get some space on the wiki to store characters, notes, session transcripts or whatever, some limited uploading for files (I only get 300 mb of file space for the site and I'm running my own games, so expect me to be draconian about this… EDIT (25 Aug 2009, 17:10 -0-400): As I'm paying for the site, my space allotment has increased. I'm less Draconian now) as well as a forum to communicate with your players (or to actually play the game in, if its a forum game). When you ask to host a game, I'll need some information so I can set up your wiki-space, get your forum going, give you appropriate privileges; you know, technical things. What you do with your game (if you use a system, what system to use, how to adapt it for the wiki, choosing an IRC client, getting players, dealing with player issues, etc) is up to you.
Any questions, you know where to find me.
Good gaming, and good night.
