LW GM: ***LOG START***
LW GM: While no longer coming at you on a horizontal line, the rain is still coming down hard enough that no member of the crew or the group, even the ones that took shelter below decks, are nice and dry. Even the most novice ship passenger ((Avan)) can feel through the soles of their feet that The Albatross took serious damage in the wave as it limps into Port Bax.
LW GM: The Albatross has just entered the docks and is just now resting as the crew attach mooring lines. This is the first time Rhavi has had a chance to see the outside of the ship, and it is not good. One portion of the hull has been almost shaved away, leaving only a thin layer of wood and tar to keep out the river. She is going to be in need of extensive repairs before Rhavi feels comfortable
LW GM: putting her to river again.
Rhavi grimly surveys the damage
Rhavi then turns his eye to the other ships at the dock (Golden Eye), seeking the swiftest vessel that can be manned with the smallest crew.
Levin 's still tending to the wounded, though at this point it's more preparing them for transportation to a proper hospice.
GrimBeard inspects any weapons, like cannons, to see if he can assist or make recommendations for repairs.
Avan is helping with the mooring lines.
LW GM: Rhavi spies a courier ship, one of the smallest and fastest classes of ship made by man. It is only lightly guarded, they must not currently be couriering anything and are simply taking shelter from the storm.
Rhavi surveys how many able bodied crew he has that can help in a skirmish.
LW GM: GrimBeard can not find any cannons. These seem to be almost exclusively civilian ships and Royal ships that are not intended for combat.
Rhavi scrutinizes the guards once he has a head count of able bodied men
LW GM: Rhavi has a full six men that are both able-bodied and Rhavi trusts in a fight. As near as he can tell, there are only three guards, and one of them is asleep on the deck.
Rhavi goes below to speak with Levin
Rhavi: "How many of these men need medical attention beyond what you can give them, Herbalish?
Levin rolled up 1d10+3: 11 (11) (derive an answer to the above question.)
LW GM: Ten men are beyond the help of medicine or mortal magic and it is just a matter of time. Of the others, twenty will need long term care that Levin does not have the time to provide.
[OOC] Rhavi: How many to crew the courier ship?
Levin: "I've ten who are beyond even my capable aid, with or without magic. Twenty more require long-term care which, alas, I lack the time to provide."
Rhavi briefly considers
[OOC] LW GM: You have more than enough for that. In fact, the ship can not hold the remainder of the crew, even if the rest of the group remained behind (Courier ships are small)
Rhavi: "make a potion to ease the suffering of the men beyond help and to send them on their way. Prolonging their pain is not ideal."
Levin draws up ten small cups of a tonic he was brewing. "I'd prepared for just that eventuality. If you wish to give comforting words before their final draught, now is the time."
Rhavi consults his charts for a place downstream but before the open bay that may be ideal to moor a ship for a little while.
[OOC] LW GM: A hidden spot? Or just a place not in the line of traffic?
[OOC] Rhavi: Either, but both would be ideal
[OOC] LW GM: Make a half-rank roll.
Rhavi rolled up 1d10+3: 5 (5)
Avan steps up to Rhavi. "So, I'm guessing we take a new ship?"
Rhavi: "Yes. It's just a matter of the most expedient way to do it. Master Grim, Avan, if you would care to accompany me, I would like to have a chat with the neighbors down the way."
Rhavi: "Bring Bessie."
Avan: "Certainly." Avan forms up on Rhavi's wing.
LW GM: Rhavi finds a spot on the map, a tributary into a dense marshland. Out of the way and hidden to boot.
GrimBeard smiles and nods.
Rhavi: "Come along gentlemen."
Rhavi heads down to the ship
Avan is following.
Dust follows from morbid curiosity.
Rhavi: "Permission to come aboard?"
GrimBeard is following also.
LW GM: The guard calls to the man sleeping on the deck, who wearily makes his way to Rhavi. "What's yer business bothering me?"
Rhavi: "You are the captain of this fine vessel?"
Lorands: "I am. What of it?"
Rhavi: "May I come aboard and speak to you about a business proposition?"
Lorands: "You may not. You can state your proposition from right where you stand."
Rhavi: "I would like to charter your ship."
Lorands: "Then I can save you some time. This ship is the property of the King of Durenor and you need to take up this proposition with his majesty."
Lorands: "Now if that is all, I am bone weary from getting this ship to port before the dam on the river burst, and I would like very much to get back to sleep."
Rhavi he smiles so that the serpent on his cheek writhes
LW GM: The captain is either too far away or too weary to appreciate it.
Rhavi: "And the counter to your offer is that I will not make this unpleasant if you accept my offer. You can make some money, say that you were overpowered, and still get your beauty sleep uninterrupted."
LW GM: Lorands' tired eyes gaze at Rhavi for a time before his words sink in and he snaps… well… more alert. "I do not think you understand who you are threatening foreigner. This vessel is the property of the King of Durenor and any attempt to take it by force by an outlander would be an act of war for your country, and mark you and your crew for death."
Avan raises an eyebrow toward Dust. "Isn't this where you come in?"
Rhavi: "Ah, but you are assuming that I have a country."
Rhavi: "I can tell you for a fact that I have had a bad day, I have an ill tempered dwarven gunner who has had a bad day as well, and frankly, this is non-negotiable."
Rhavi: "Unless you let us on board and accept our offer."
Levin sticks his head out a conveniently-located porthole. "We have wounded aboard we'd really like to offload somewhere safe."
[OOC] LW GM: Is that intended to carry to the captain of the courier?
[OOC] Levin: Yes.
Dust places a hand on Rhavi's arm. "It gains Sommerlund nothing if you steal this ship and incite a war, save for risking greater threat from the Darklands. Remember: low profile."
Lorands: "My sympathy for your wounded does not extend to allowing a blustering foreigner to attempt to bluff his way into stealing The King's ship."
Rhavi: "I have no intention of stealing this ship. The good captain is going to allow us to use it for our mission."
Levin: "Does it extend to loaning another foreigner the use of the ship for a period?"
Rhavi: "Who is bluffing?"
LW GM: Lorands hesitates before he call behind him, "Jorothers! Go and take a look at these wounded."
[OOC] Avan: We're on the dock?
[OOC] Avan: Or is the Albatross right next to the courier?
[OOC] Levin: The latter, I think.
[OOC] Rhavi: I thought it was down the way
[OOC] LW GM: You're at the dock, but it is practically deserted and Levin's voice carries.
LW GM: The man, Jorothers, salutes the captain and approaches your group. "Take me to these wounded."
Avan: "Follow me." Avan leads the way back as quick as he can.
Rhavi tries to smile affably, which comes across as more of a grimace
Avan takes him straight to the ward.
LW GM: Jorothers examines the wounded sailors with an experienced eye. "What happened to them?"
Levin gives the man an edited version of the actual tale. Editing out the 'mission for Sommerlund' part, that is.
[OOC] Avan: Levin isn't there, no?
[OOC] Avan: Avan took him alone.
[OOC] Levin: In my ward? Full well I am.
[OOC] Avan: Ah. Thought you were with the others.
[OOC] LW GM: If Levin were to leave, he'd have to have his molecules scrambled, and he doesn't like that.
Avan does not edit it out. "We have been harried by the Cener. They are active, and we bring the cure to their latest plot."
Avan: "We wish a fast, low profile transit, that we may prevent this from happening further."
Avan: "That is why my companions do not speak openly of it."
LW GM: Jorothers sighs. "I'll tell the captain your wounded are real and not just a scam, but I doubt it will change his mind."
Avan: "Ask him what kind of mission would require a Kai Lord and a herbwarden together."
Avan: "You've seen both of them with your own eyes."
Levin: "Without my craft, these men would not have survived long enough to need long-term care."
LW GM: Jorothers looks at Levin, then out the porthole to the group waiting outside. "I suppose I have. I will ask the captain."
Avan: "This is likely a mission your king would support."
Jorothers: "I have seen enough."
Avan escorts Jorothers back to his ship.
Rhavi forces himself to stillness, not fidgeting or pacing or killing the captain to take his ship.
LW GM: Jorothers' salutes the captain again. "Sir I have seen their crew and they have many that are injured and many that are dying. I am also forced to wonder what grand purpose a Kai Lord and an Herbwarden of Bautar would have to travel together."
LW GM: Lorands considers Jorothers' words. "Very well. Sommerlund and Durenor have been friends in adversity for centuries. Please, come aboard. However, the ship is too small to accommodate your wounded. They will have to remain in a hospice here in Port Bax."
Rhavi: "That was the plan, yes."
Rhavi swings aboard
LW GM: "So, where do you need to go?"
Avan: "Rhavi, shall I fetch the other bearer, and tell the others to remain until we return?"
Levin distributes the final draughts to the dying so that they may choose their time of passage, then gathers together his remaining supplies, leaving only sufficient medicines to ease the merely wounded 'til they can be transported to hospices.
Dust: "Holmguard, with all speed."
Rhavi: "Yes, thank you Avan. Captain we are headed toward Holmgard."
Avan does just that, returning with Levin.
LW GM: Lorands blinks at Rhavi's words. "That was our destination regardless. Though I would have balked at having passengers in any event."
Rhavi: "Avan, take this, he tosses the ten crowns from the assassin to him. " Give it to the first mate and tell him to stay with the wounded until they are cared for. It's a severance pay "
Lorands: "Very well, we will sale at first light. Whenever that is with this storm blocking all light."
Avan does that too.
[OOC] LW GM: +an appropriately captainy name for the captain. Rhavi is already taken. There is a one Rhavi limit in this game.
[OOC] Avan: Rhave? Rhavy?
[OOC] LW GM: I decided on Lorands.
LW GM: ***LOG END***
